Additional Information Tung Chung River, originating at an altitude of 880 metres, between Fung Leng and Wong Leng of Lantau Peak, flows through northern Lantau Island, and reaches the sea southwest of Tung Chung new town. It ranks third in terms of the height of river origin in Hong Kong. The main stream flows north through Pak Tin Mun, Tei Tong Tsai, Chap Mun Tau and Mok Ka, and merges with a major tributary (East Stream) at midway between Ngau Au and Wong Ka Wai, before entering Tung Chung Bay. Tung Chung River is one of the few local rivers that have not been extensively channelised. The natural landscape is largely retained from the headwaters to the estuary. The upper and middle courses of Tung Chung River are within a water gathering ground of Water Supplies Department, so there are measures to protect the water quality. Villagers living in the middle and lower course areas also made some efforts to protect local woods, and have cultivated many fruit trees along the river, hence partially safeguarding the river habitat. A rich ecological environment is maintained while the upper and middle courses of Tung Chung River remain largely free of human interference. Resources: Underwater footage, Hong kong government sites, river databases and species databases. The inspiration for this biotope comes from my love for this species of goby and it's habitat, as the tank was built to have a low height to resemble the fast flowing river as it would be in nature.
