Awards and Comments

Second Place
Beautiful representation of nature taking over piece of driftwood. Good use of hardscape to make the appearance natural. Excellent contrast of texture and colors in the Wabi-Kusa!
— Bailin Shaw
Great detail on the wood using various leaf shapes and types even including emersed fissidens to mix up the moss area and add texture.
— Jo Ann Fujii
Some dried tips on leaves detract SLIGHTLY from health and appearance. But the balancing of the Wabi-Kusa ball over the wood is an attractive concept.

Additional Information I have tried to represent a stranded driftwood on the river bank where the nature and vegetation has given way. The ceramic base of the Wabi-kusa contains a layer of water where the substrate absorbs it from the back and keeps the roots of aquatic plants moist.
