#265: 198L Dutch Aquascape Puzzle

Zapartan Flaviu Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Comments

Obviously there are some issues with the foreground plants. But the scape lacks a strong focus point; putting all the plants at the same height also does not help.

A turbo-charged collection of 'hip' plants du jour. Too many species. Not enough separation between groups. Plants especially in foreground feel freshly uprooted and replanted. Rotala macrandra Variegated is overpowering…it would have been better used in smaller amount just off center using the rule of thirds. While Ammannia pedicellata adds much needed yellow it appears tip-stunted. Too many Eriocaulaceae (Tonina Syngonanthus Eriocaulon) next to each other reduces contrast. Rotala ramosior in front of Ludwigia glandulosa reduces each plant's uniqueness. The use of rare new and difficult plants are noted but true Dutch style places far more emphasis on composition than rarity. Plants look driven hard and force fed (EI method ?) which eliminates the calm and relaxed look Dutch tanks should have.
