#568: 150L Biotope Aquascape Creek in Pandaan Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia

While the display is well put together and looks authentic it is let down by the inclusion of fishes which grow much too large for this size aquarium. A biotope aquarium must not only be a faithful representation of a habitat it must be a suitable long-term home for the species included. Anything less is a failure to follow the ethics of animal husbandry. This is why I have scored the overall condition so low.

This is unfortunate as the aquascaper has clearly gone to considerable effort to produce the display. If the aquascaper has only included the Rhinogobius this display would have achieved a much higher result.

I love the this biotope and how it mimics a fast flowing stream so well. The current creating so many small bubbles in the water recrates the highly oxygenated waters of a mountain stream. Kudos!

Additional Information The biotope I recreated this time is a mountain stream in the Pandaan area, Pasuruan, East Java. Although this is a small stream, the current tends to be very fast, which is the habitat of such a fast-swimming fish as Barbodes binotatus, Mystacoleucus obtusirostris and others. GPS

This river interested me also because it is the habitat of a very beautiful Rhinogobius sp. which looks like Rhinogobius similis. This fish is still often found in some regions of East Java, such as in Mojokerto, where mountain streams always have this fish.

Hopefully this biotope aquarium will inspire others to recreate a habitat for Rhinogobius sp. fish in the aquarium.

I make enough room for the fish to swim and feed. I also make cracks for the spawning places of all the fish in the aquarium (can be seen in the video). I keep the water temperature low at 22-26°C.

Water care : 20% water change once a week.
