It is interesting to see the 'small' category as the most popular this year - a glimpse into the future perhaps?
Many entrants have truly mastered creating an effective sense of scale by using fine textured plants and small animals.
Shrimp-only tanks are popular which is good to see in smaller aquaria.
There are also some great lower-light/nutrient set ups which is promising for beginners to the hobby.
Well done to all those that took the trouble to enter and for making my job as a judge so difficult!

How often in reviewing the entrants in this category is one amazed that a cubic foot of water can hold a mountain range or a river bed or other piece of a larger world. It was refreshing to see at least one entrant attempt to explore a more abstract genre of aquascape design. It'll be interesting to see after future bold tries at this style if it will be accepted as mainstream.

This was a very difficult category to judge this year. There were too many really stunning aquascapes!
